Ambler Main Street, a non-profit organization involving more than 100 volunteers, is dedicated to making "Downtown Ambler" a social, cultural and business center for Ambler and the surrounding areas including Upper Dublin, Lower Gwynedd and Whitpain. Downtown Ambler is fast becoming a great place to visit for good food, entertainment, shopping or just a walk on the avenue. Ambler Main Street also administers a Facade Grant Program, which provides professional design services and funding for improvement to downtown buildings. At least 40 businesses have used these grants to paint their storefronts and install new signs and awnings. Additional state and county grant money has been awarded for the redesign and refurbishing of both the east and west entrances to the Borough on Butler Avenue as well as upgrading all the traffic signals, adding a signal at Butler and Maple, and the purchase of new street lights and street furniture. To prevent further sprawl, the government encourages better utilization of existing real estate. They want us to take advantage of the opportunity presented by existing small towns to create better communities. Ambler is a perfect candidate, given its ample amount of available real estate and accessible location. |
